Re: hook question

Lots of good thoughts here. But, after reading this thread, I am going with a straight eye hook and let the cards fall where they may (that is all I use for dry flies).

Re: Sink tip line

Dale, thanks for the suggestion about versileaders, will consider them.

As water temperatures drop, I generally like to get my flies deeper with the exception of a hatch of midges or olives.

Sink tip line

Should do a search before going any further but I am having way too much trouble navigating this forum. Should be much much easier. Anyway, have always fished wet flies with a dry fly line. However, today tried fishing them with a type III sink tip line. What a pleasant surprise. I am not about to f...

Re: Turle Knot (Turtle Knot)

Rene Harrop and Mike Lawson showed me this knot in January 1974. They indeed brought the end through the loop a second time and referred to it as a double turle knot. I have used this knot almost exclusively for all flies since then and (this is going to sound like a fisherman) can not remember this...

Re: Old Blue Dun XL

Carl,

Judging from the size of the fly, I'm guessing you use it for Tarpon. Let me ask, you fish it on the swing, down and across?

Re: Swinging flies during a hatch

Part of fishing is doing what you enjoy doing. If you like swinging flies (even during a hatch), I wouldn't give any thought to what others may think.

Tree sap??

Several days ago got out on the river. Put on a march brown spider and had 3 takes on my first 4 casts. After that, the takes became few and far between; basically couldn't buy a strike. I have given this some thought and I remember hooking a leave on a tree sapling on my backcast (this rarely happe...

Fishing Wet Flies

I have lots of questions for you guys about the subject topic. However, before I start asking questions that have been answered before under previous threads, I'll do a little research before I bore you all. I have been fly fishing exclusively for 40 years now and, up until about nearly 4 months ago...
