Re: A Small Wheatley Box

Ron Hope all goes well with your surgery and quickly back tying flies. Ian was quick in getting out my two 1302 leax boxes, which now makes four of them for me plus another (same size) but no leaf. Small, compact and hold lots of spiders and soft hackles for this OLD guy. Cheers and Good Health Bob

As do I. And with bright yellow, it would make a great sulfur emerger.
Great idea. I'll have to do some with the yellow dubbing. Thanks.

“Three Pheasant Tail” Soft Hackles

From a write-up I did recently for our local TU Chapter's monthly newsletter: Approx. 15 or so years ago, a German fellow who posted on “The Classic Rod Forum” sent me an e-mail with a picture of a soft hackled nymph dressed with a pheasant tail body; gold wire ribbing; a Hungarian partridge hackle ...

Fox Ear Dubbing

By chance does anyone have some extra of the light brown dubbing taken from a fox's ear available for sale? Thanks.

Protected Bird Species

I copied these from the Migratory Bird Treaty Act Protected Species (10.13 List) MBTA AS OF APRIL 2020 Many of these listed are used on many of the old North Country Spiders and Soft Hackles. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act makes it illegal for anyone to take, possess, import, export, transport, sell,...

Re: Thorax Only Emerger

It really reminds me of Oliver Kite's "Bare Hook Nymph" that had nothing more than a copper wire built up thorax. I've dome a few of Kite's BHNs and also added a little dubbing to the copper thorax.... both wokred well for me the few times I tried them. Here's video of Oliver Kite tying an...

Re: The Grey Watchet

Interesting how a slight change in a dressing results in a different name.

For quite a few years, I've tied various "thread and hackle dressings" with the addition of a thorax or wire rib - sometimes both - and just continued to call them as a P&O, P&Y, etc.
