Re: The Nemes Challenge

Thanks for the replies guys. Ruard: I only got a small section at the top of the neck, But will look at it to see if maybe the lowest feathers will work for a hackle. Will be looking for a decent neck soon. tie2fish: I am heading for the bench ASAP to try it. Looks really cool. Wonder is New Mexican...

Re: The Nemes Challenge

Maybe I should jump in as I just finished Sylvester's last two books (looking for the first one), and started Dave hugh's book. :geek: I think I remember the chalange in the fog of my mind, so it must be in one of the last two books. I am going to be fishing sofy hackles, or trying to, entirely this...

Re: Short Shank vs. Longer Shank hooks

Wow Looks like my reading just got a big kick in the behind. That list of John's sounds incredible. Will be looking to see which ones I have available then start chassing the internet. Been reading everything I could find on bamboo rod making and have gone through about 15 to 20 books, and have a pr...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

Thanks Ray and Hank Will be tieing the spiders up and have been working on a lot of flymphs. So where do the soft hackles fit in to the equation?? It's tough trying to learn a new fishing fly in a hurry. I am planning to just fish SH, flymph, and spiders this year as much as possible. I just got to ...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

So got a question. I live in the southern rocky mountains, and pretty much fish southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Question is what Flymphs and soft hackle flies work here. There are tons of soft hackles and flymphs, and it seems most are from England and such, or from the North East part of...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

Sure would like to learn to switch cast some day. That looks like fun. Folks in my club look at me like I am smoking crack or something when I mention breaking the norm around here. Even thinking about soft hackles keeps me in the back row for now. But that is where I found my mentor, and he is spok...

Re: Deer Hair Emerger

We at my club have been trying a midge called a smoke jumper for the same principle. They use CDC puffs, but this looks like it would really stay in the surface. Looking forward to seeing how it works. We have a couple members getting into the Tenkara thing, so watching for that also.

Re: Tying in Hackle

Sometimes I tie tip first and others I tie butt first. Depends on the situation. Like 1 too many nips from the bottle and I keep breaking the tip off and having to start over, then I just turn it around and tie the heavy butt in first and wrap. Hopefully I don't break the dang tip off in the hackle ...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

I have an old Fenwick eagle that was made in America. Got all the attributes Tom talks about, and is really fun to fish with. Only problem I also have a granddaughter with her eye on it ;) She doesn't want nothing to do with bait and spinners. Even when it's the only thing catching at the time. 8-) ...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

Thanks Tom Have been buisy with everything other than rod making for some time, but looking to get back at it very soon. My first rod is going to be a perfection taper, but then gotta get to a flymph rod next. Tough part is to fish or to make rods. Weather is great and the trout are calling. I am si...
