Re: New member intro

The original Betts Microfibbetts were sable paint brush bristles. I helped John package up a bunch of these after he had cut the brushes apart and dyed the fibers.

We needed some sort of signal yesterday to know who was who. I didn't see anybody in a kilt but a lot of other folks.

Re: My attempt at Stewarts Black Spider

Great fly.

I've had folks tell me that a fly as simple as this can't possibly catch trout. I don't try to change their minds, I just tie it on and catch fish. Works really well in the South Platte.

Re: New member intro

Jim Anderson lives in Longmont and is a member of this forum. He'll probably be at the tying gig.

Welcome! You will enjoy being part of this group. If you live on the front range, come out to the West Denver Fly Tying Clinic at Jeffco Fairgrounds (6th and Indiana) on February 8th (10am - 3pm) and introduce yourself. Re: New Pearsall's Silk Substitute

This is probably against all the rules of the Brotherhood of the Flymph; however, I just use YLI white silk and color with a waterproof marker to anything I want. YLI 100 is about 30% finer than Persall's but it seems stronger to me.

Re: woodcock

Try the seller 'woodyshuts' on eBay UK. Had lots of soft hackle stuff the last time I got some.

Re: Dying Related - pH Control (mostly for Mr. Bailey)

The leveling dyes Bill refers to as being scare in the US are Kiton Dyes. Pro Chemical and Dye stopped selling this some time back; however, I was able to snag some off of eBay.

Re: Dying Related - pH Control (mostly for Mr. Bailey)

Bill is correct about Cushings Dyes. The other suppliers have a mix of leveling and milling dyes.

For a black black use a pre-metallized dye. A pain to use but a great result.
