All of my Damsel fly imitations are wiggle nymphs. I've even tied a few Callibaetis wiggle nymphs but have had mixed success with them.

I'm guessing that the angle of your fingers and the hook shank is about 45 degrees. That's why the wing sticks up like it does. Try getting your fingers parallel to the hook shank and see what happens. Just my 2 cents worth. Your mileage may vary.

For what it's worth, I attach leader sections with blood knots and just leave one of the tag ends long as a dropper.

Dubbing wax in the little blue tubes with the yellow top made and sold by John Betts were SWIX cross-country ski wax. I know because I helped him fill a couple hundred of the tubes one day.

I hope you all enjoyed these. The Black Gnat doesn't match the pattern in the Leisenring and Hidy book. It looks more like a gray hackle peacock.
