Re: Posse Bugger Variant

guys... I've fished a section of the Middle Deschutes when we could get on the water that has a bit of a salmon fly/stonefly hatch each spring. Not as well known as the lower Deschutes, but stonefly nymphs have been working this winter. I've tied several other new to me stonefly nymphs inspired by D...

Posse Bugger Variant

Having a chat today with Roadkill and after seeing his Smurf Emerger, I thought most of those folks from East of the Cascades, might not know that "Smurf" in this case is a real person; and unless you had watched old Jack Dennis videos, or read Rick Hafele's book "Nymph Fishing Rivers...

Like the gold tag... ala LaFontaine's suggestion that the gold tag on dark flies has historical relevance!

Split Case PMD Emerger

Recently saw an interesting way to mimic the split wing case on a PMD nymph using yellow thread, or in this case yellow yarn. I'm still working out how I want to tie this in... First attempt as shown is adding the yarn after tying down the PT wing case. Next time, I'm going to add the yarn, fold it ...

Re: Eye candy and more

In the Semperfli catalogue they suggest you use a blade and not your scissors. I've been using it as well and find it very good for small flies and when extra pressure needs to be put on the thread. Plus you can use the white and color it with markers.

Re: Eye candy and more

REE that is quite a catalogue. Can't imagine the cost to produce that dude. My local fly shop can't find a distributor for the stuff, and buying direct from Semperfli must be a hassle. So far, aren't carrying their materials.

Re: Olive Dun Henwing

Excellent tip Ray.. Variant has introduced me to the Glanrose style wings and getting that starling wing to position correctly is the trick. Your SBS's are just terrific, really helps us learners to improve. I had not used the Mitch's bobbin with my Kimono silks. Will be on the vise today. I can be ...
