Re: Generic Green Drakes

Wish I was floating along side of you, not happening in my neck of the woods yet, but soon the Watermaster will get its inaugural float on the Crooked... Great fly as always.

Re: Sunny Side Up Flymph

Bill... you just are a tying machine. Hopefully, we'll be able to fish some of your great flies this spring.

Re: Rods for fishing flymphs and soft hackles

ron... thanks for your detailed reply. My interest in Scandi and Skagit lines is a little misguided actually. I rarely, almost never, fish big waters with big flies on sink tips. But, I got interested in Skagit because I use single hand spey casting all the time on a variety of rods for swinging sof...

Re: Rods for fishing flymphs and soft hackles

Do any of you guys who fish larger rivers ever fish a single hand rod with a Scandi line swinging soft hackles....If so, what rods and which lines? I had a friend give me an intro to Scandi yesterday but it was on a 6wt rod that I would seldom fish with on the rivers I fish most. Fun to cast, but ha...

Re: Winter Larva

Wayne... i've seen a couple vids of midges in the water and from stomach samples... I'm guessing the fish don't discriminate. I've caught plenty fish on curved Zebra midges, with silver beads :o so what does the fish think of that shiny head... I've not fished midge larva often enough out here, even...

Re: Winter Larva

I keep coming back to this post.... another question for DUBBN... straight hook vs curved hook... i see you use both... what is the logic of one vs the other for your patterns?

Re: Dressed For Success (another glympse inside Doug's Fly Box)

love the box and the flies as always. But, I'm curious about the way you put the flies into the slots... I put mine in just the opposite direction...Am I doing it backwards, or do you prefer your way for a specific reason...

Re: Winter Larva

Wayne.. thanks for the thorough explanation. Clearly the pump is superior to turning over rocks. I loved my fishing trip to the San Juan some years ago. I took my daughter along on that trip and we caught so many fish that for the first time she was able to land, release, and manage her own rig. I t...

Re: Winter Larva

Wayne.. I'm interested to know whether you seine the river bottom to see the color of the nymphs. I've fished a couple times in different parts of Colorado, and that is the only place I've found blood midges. Here i've found cream and black of course, but not other colors. I don't necessarily follow...

Re: Clitellata Hirudinea (soft hackle pheasant tail leech imitation)

Ray.. the artwork is pretty amazing... not sure I'm ready to turn my non-techy brain onto AI Art generative whatever you said...but the name and art work is a hoot. Oh yeah.. the fly aint too shabby either.
