Re: Fieldfare anyone have some Fieldfare feather that can afford to part with

Yes it’s for the Bloa, I only need a couple of feathers at the most. You see I’m planning a shadow box With as many of the Pritt patterns I can find materials for. I have a Dotterel that I can take a few feathers off and swap.
I envy Robert Smith and all his pre ban materials 🙏

Re: Something new

I snagged a ton of dog fur from the dog groomer at Petco. It had already been shampooed. It is wonderful for Tups recipe being cream colored and just like baby seals fur. I use a dog brush on my wire hair Jack Russell and the while underbody hair makes a excellent dubbing and along with the big bag ...

Ah well, I’ve had a break from fly tying for a while and I’m planning to tie some older patterns for myself to put in a shadow box but it seems every one I want to tie uses a rare or banned material!

Fieldfare anyone have some Fieldfare feather that can afford to part with

If the answer is yes could you pm me? I would expect them to be be pre ban of course. I’m trying to tie a number of old patterns to put in a shadow box so a single feather will suffice.
Thanks

Re: My attempt at Stewarts Black Spider

A excellent fly. Davie McPhail has a YouTube video where he shows how to tie this fly. He twists the feather and tying thread together to make a much stronger fly.

Re: Arthur Cove's Nymphs

I have never seen nor read his book. So what’s his idea behind the fly being tied around the bend? Was he imitating a cased caddis or midge? Cove’s nymphs were largely tied on a grub hook ( caddis ) and fished on a leader greased up to within a few inches of the fly In the seventies in Britain, it ...

Re: Catgut for bodies

The British military used to issue condoms that were very heavy duty, they’re just latex after all which I’ve used to tie in the past. They lasted a long time. Latex is easily coloured with a waterproof marker pen. Makes for a nice fly. B As a footnote during wwII Winston Churchill ordered large con...
