Re: Soft Hackles Flies for Brodhead Creek Trip

From Carl's instructions:

"Body is dark hare mixed with olive and red seal to get a dark brownish/red".

You can see the fly, as tied by "Old Hat", and a much better photo, by going to his web site. It's the fly at the top of the page.

Soft Hackles Flies for Brodhead Creek Trip

I'm looking forward to the early June trip to Brodhead Creek. I haven't fished there since 1982 when I joined the USAF. It will be fun re-visiting the Analomink stretch and trying some of the new water too. Also looking forward to seeing my friend Don Baylor, touring the Brodhead Creek display at th...

Re: Top 6 Commonly Used Hen Neck Colors?

I called Charlie Collins again to expand my collection of hen neck colors. I can see this becoming a regular occurrence. His price is $20.00 each when you buy multiples and pick the colors. Four for $60.00 if he picks the colors. You're getting the neck and saddle as a "hen set". I bet there isn't a...

JCW777 / Dougsden, Here are some previous posts on the topic of a "Pearsall's Replacement Silk" with some color comparisons (Morus to Pearsall's), comments on why or why not to use it, and options for other substitutes (YLI and Kimono): https://flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=8629 https://flymp...

Re: YLI Silk thread junkie

I've seen a picture showing YLI #242 (Pinky Brown) as a good match for Pearsall's Ash (#10).

Re: YLI Silk thread junkie

John,

Any chance you could post a list of YLI silk numbers (color names) as they correspond to the list of silk numbers (color names) for Pearsall's Gossamer?

Thanks- Ken

Re: Sucessor to Pearsall's Gossamer

Rex, I appreciate the update. There has been some info about this silk from Morus. See the 3-page post below called: New Pearsall's Silk Substitute. It's good to know there is a U.S. source, although the color selection is very limited. Encourage your friend to post some pictures of his soft hackle ...

Re: Ice Breakers

I appreciate the list of materials and the background info for this fly. Note to self: add tan midge tubing to list of materials to order.

Thanks- Ken
