Finicky grayling

Another feather in the hat for the flymph. The other day I saw the first baetis emergence this year on my home stream, at least the first that the fish responded well to. Plenty of grayling rising and the vast majority of them refusing the winged adult. I’ve seen this on numerous occasions, not only...

Re: Bead Thoraxed Soft Hackled Nymphs

First time I used a bead-thoraxed SH was during a white miller hatch on the Firehole. A local gave a couple when I told him I was headed for Firehole, and he swore by them. And sure enough that fly outdid everything else on that day. He usually fished them on the dropper with an unweighted SH on the...

Re: Dark Hendrickson Flymph

Pure poetry to my eyes. Nice mix of dubbing, love the brassy hue of the hackle. That fly should look even better in the water.

Re: Blue Winged Olive

Nice! Thanks for sharing "mamatried", and welcome aboard. This looks like a very effective pattern. Thanks ”letumgo”, the hackle on this is a little longer than usual, but then again I do like a little “controlled inconsistency” in my flies. Gives me more to choose from on the water. Thank you for ...

Re: Blue Winged Olive

07CAA96C-5655-48D6-8785-A18E81B45257.jpeg This one works great for fall baetis, should work for bwo’s too. Dun rooster for tail, olive tying thread for body “ribbed” with hares ear in a waxed dubbing loop, dun hen hackle. Dark cobblers wax to dull the effect of the rather bright olive thread I had ...
