I agree about the Partridge & Orange being a good standby.
The fly looks great and I think the inside wing was a great choice.

Hook sale happening
Dette's fly shop is having a big sale on Tiemco and Partridge hooks. Looks like 50% 0ff.

Re: Trying out a classic
I remember as a kid, at our local 3 chair barbershop. An argument broke out as to the make up of the RGK body material. The argument was whether the body was peacock, or Black chenille.   Seriously, it almost came down to a fist fight. When I did use the RGK, a hundred years ago, it...

Re: Trying out a classic
So you used the wet version of the RGK? I should start using that pattern. At one time it was practically a Colorado tradition to use that fly. Great photos! Yes I did. I also tied up some of the RGK Trude flies that I read do very well. I saw an article about Richard J. O'Connor and how he only fi...

Trying out a classic
I tied up a few Rio Grande Kings, the best I could, and took them up to the Poudre to see if they are as good as their reputation says they are. I wasn't disappointed. I used a duo rig with the RGK on top with the Gingerbread on bottom. I have to say, that with the success I have had with the Ginger...

Doing better
Last year, around November I believe, I started trying out tying winged flies. I have to say that it hasn't been easy learning this style, but after reading what you all had to say, along with reading articles in Fly Tyer Magazine and watching videos, I think I'm getting better at this. I do have to...

I think you better hold onto your rod with both hands.

Re: Sparrow
That to me would be one of those flies you put in a glass case and just admire it. That's a beautiful fly and the dark color in the hackle near the head is very attractive.
I can't even see a fish biting on it just out of respect.

Re: March Brown from the John Shaner fly wallet
That's a great looking fly. The orange just pops out on it.
It surely is a fly I need to start tying and putting in my fly wallet.
