Re: CELLIRE thinner

Cellire can be thinned with toluene. Hard to find but a good old school hardware store should have it. I recently got four bottles from the vendor below. Total equaled about $6 bucks a bottle. Truth be told, I still mainly use nitrocellulose lacquer I bought from Rockler. I also use a concoction I m...

Re: Dove Truffle Milk Chocolate

WiFly,

Personally I prefer the Dove Dark chocolate with the red wrapper! Just don't know what the heck I'd tie with it. LOL... I'm a dark chocolate kinda guy. Blue flies are cool though. Nice work.

Correct. If you call Charlie for availability and send him a check, he will send you the saddle.

Re: Swap Fly

Tie2fish,

That's a really nice job on that fly! Raffia is not an easy material to tie with. Proportions are good and a really good job on the hackle wind and head. Nice work indeed!

Re: Ideas for thread and other spooled stuff storage

I to use plastic compartment boxes to store spools of thread, dubbing, beads, etc. I get mine at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I also have two clear plastic spool tubes that I bought a long time ago that stay in my travel kit. I actually like them better than boxes but the darn things are expensive and ...

Re: Hook for the Red Hackle?

Mataura, There's also no denying that dyed materials, like seal etc, catch tons of fish...and have for decades. Interesting stuff for sure. :D Same subject different topic... Many years ago I worked at a dye/finish textile plant. We made plush material for car seats and nylon/Lycra swimwear material...

Re: Hook for the Red Hackle?

Bill, Jeff, dyeing never improves on nature. It merely provides what nature doesn't or at least not in abundance. I'd go one step further. Dying provides a color that we humans see as a red or green or brown, etc. The trout may perceive that dyed material in a totally different color than the natura...

I stand corrected! ;) I guess my Kung Fu is not strong...nor is my force, or memory in this case. I humble myself to you and, quite frankly, am deeply em-bare-assed.

Yes, purchased said block from William. Will put it to go use when it's in my hands.

Now, about those flies I owe you.....

Re: Dave Hughes Video - Flymph Tying Demonstration (YouTube)

Mataura, Initiation? A dozen flies to each member? What constitutes a "fly"? How long does this take? Is it painful? Does it leave a scar? Will my wife wonder where I've been? Since I've been a member of this forum for a few years now (just never posted until now) do I still have to do thi...

Re: Dave Hughes Video - Flymph Tying Demonstration (YouTube)

Watched that video. My main exception is how bushy he made the fly. Way too bushy for my taste. I have a question though, I don't often use a dubbing twirler but I do use one when I spin the dubbing for flymphs. It's faster. I can also control how much I spin it and get the desired buggy result. Lay...
