Re: Custom Leaders - My next adventure

Ray, this thread is a old enough now that you've probably had time to get all your leaders wet. How do you like them? Which do you like best?

Re: A wet fly bound to raise some hackles ;)

Beautiful flies! You are exactly right, the stiff hackle doesn't collapse like a soft hackle would. It resists being pulled through the water, which allows you to keep your line tighter and off the water's surface. Very similar concept to Cutcliffe's stiff hackled wets for fishing rapid streams. Re: Upstream Wet Fly

What is this "reel" of which you all speak?

Watching Oliver Edwards DVD, I couldn't help thinking it would have been so much easier with a tenkara rod (or a loop rod and horsehair line for the traditionalists).

Re: Sunny Morning and a Fish Story About Tenkara Carp

An amazing test of the tippet protecting ability of a tenkara rod!

Re: W.C. Stewart's Definition of Upstream Fishing?

In Stewart's discussion of rods he refers a couple times to a 12' rod. With respect to lines he cautions against using a long line, although I couldn't find a specific reference to the length he uses. He also says to keep the rod no lower than a 40-45 degree angle, with little or no line on the wate...

Re: Uni-mohair

Rather than tying a fly with just the UNI-Mohair yarn, you can pull a few strands from the yarn to add a hint of color to a dubbing blend. I think I recall reading that the original Tupps blend used red mohair rather than red seal fur. Having tried to recreate it once, I found that it doesn't take m...

Re: leisenring lift

Excellent thread. If someone is going to film this, and I hope someone does, be aware that this is not a project that you can do alone. A GoPro on a headband will not capture what you want to show, and the fisheye lens will distort the rod, the angles and the distances. You will need at least one an...

Re: Eye up hooks

A hook with a more traditional shape than the Daiichi 1150 is the Daiichi 1330, which comes in sizes 16-24. I suspect Jim Slattery can get them for you but you might have to order 10 packages in the same size (or put together a group order of 10). http://i565.photobucket.com/albums/ss91/CMStwrt/232_...
