Re: Orange Otter

My copy of Orange Otter was waiting for me when we got back from our cabin, and my copy of Moc Morgans' book just arrived today. Bid plus, not a paperback. In very good condition. Doesn't look like it's been read. Just went to Amazon yesterday to check out the prices for this book and the lowest pr...

Re: Orange Otter

Greg, Thanks for the tip on Medlar Press. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the leather covered editions, but I settled for a cloth covered book for about $50 including shipping.

Re: Shakey Bealy Soft Hackle

I really like the look of this pattern. I'll have to try a few in my small Wheatley fly boxes. ;)

Re: Small Wheatley Fly Boxes

A while back someone here mentioned those boxes and I picked up a couple. Really nice boxes that should last several lifetimes.

Playing with some Magpie Materials

A while back Stephen Hankins, owner, operator, shipping clerk, dye master, etc, of Magpie Materials was kind enough to send me some stuff to play with. Most was Kimono silk on standard tying spools, and we have sung the praises of Kimono for ever. There were a couple things new to me, at least. His ...

Re: Fishing a Riffle

I have started swinging soft hackles and am new to this fun brand of fly fishing. Despite lots of hits, I struggle to hook fish. (Mostly 10”-14” bows) I have tried both split second sets and the long, let ‘em eat it steelhead method with inconsistent results. Any suggestions? I usually only swing a...

Black and Grizzly Snatcher

I saw this during an internet search for lake flies. Found it on a Polish site. I have not fished it, but think it will do well. Hook: Scud hook of your choice, size 12. I didn't have any on hand and used a TMC 206BL. Tag and underbody is Flourescent Pink thread or floss. On future ties I may coat t...

Olive Willy Variant

Years ago Vickie and I were invited to fish Stan Coffin Lake in eastern WA. It was being made into a large mouth bass fishery, but the bass had yet to arrive and the food fish, blue gills and crappie were in abundance. Vickie had never fished for pan fish with a fly rod before so we borrowed a fly f...

Talk about your clean and concise and absolutely beautiful set of flies before us! I want to go to the Wayne G. school of tying! Can you schedule me in sometime?
In a state of jaw drop,
Doug
I agree. When I grow up, I wanna tie like Wayne.

Re: Hen and Yellow

Very clean dressing, Wayne. Fish food for sure. That hackle looks a bit more like furnace to me, but it could just be the thorax giving the list a darker hue. One to copy, as always.
