Re: Partridge and Blue. Mole colour effect

I have been tying flies for over 45 years and with the exception of a few streamers I have never tied a blue fly. Your pattern does look interesting and based on the discussion I may have to try a few blue thoraxed soft hackles. As far as finding blue Peasrsalls.......

Re: 1st Spider of the Year

Tremendously effective fly and nice work! I also add a touch of hare's ear thorax which seems to work well. Sy Nemes sold me on the spiders over 40 years ago.

Re: Flymph from Famous Flies and Their Originators

I am not sure how I missed these great flies but they did bring a smile to my face on a rainy December afternoon. Great work!

Re: Fishing Winged or Wingless Fly Patterns

I am sure that my lack of success with winged wets early on was due to user error on my part and I never gained any confidence in them. After being inspired by Sy Nemes’ first book on soft hackle flies I tied some up and used his techniques and had excellent results. I have fished with anglers that ...

Re: Fishing Winged or Wingless Fly Patterns

Since the mid-1970's I have had great success with wingless soft hackle flies while never having much success with winged wets. Whether I am fishing a March Brown Soft Hackle or a generic partridge and orange I u...

Re: Ruffed Grouse Skin

Beautiful grouse skin! I am never without one and it was my favorite game bird back in my upland hunting days.

Re: Hen and Moose

Great job with the moose mane! I use to tie the bodies of small Tricos using the same technique and they can be difficult to work with.

Re: Golden Plover

I received mine from Cookshill several days ago - put it to use right away. A great variety of hackle sizes and the feathers near the head can handle size 18-20 soft hackles with a conventional wrapping technique. Very pleased and cannot believe that I have been tying soft hackle flies for over 40 y...
