Re: Grouse
Maybe Bob is 100% right, but I ain't quite 100% convinced :D I find it difficult to accept that a small pattern such as the tummel style tied on a large hook is as effective on less than fast flowing water than same pattern on a smaller hook - call me cautious when it comes to such matters. Bet you...

Re: Grouse
So the faster the water, the less likelyhood of the size of the hook putting the trout on guard. So the Tummel style may possibly be only at maximum effectiveness on similarily fast water. As always its worth considering these matters. No not necessarily so. As you know, over here on stillwaters, b...

So, to get it to lay flat, ....................I un-twist it. Ok, I can do that. Hank, You won't get it to lay flat. Untwisting it will only leave you with three (or two, I can't remember exactly) round strands. If you do try to untwist you'll have to untwist it clockwise, pearsal's is twisted the ...

Re: Grouse
Thanks for the compliments folks, glad you like them. With the posturing about what is and what is not a north country soft-hackle from one village or another Whilst I like to be as accurate as I can, I'm not going to lose sleep if I'm wrong William. There's plenty of important thing to worry about ...

Re: Whitlock's Red Fox Squirrel - Flymph?
Hi Joe, the dressing I know has no hackle. But; a quick Google shows I'm wrong (no surprises there! )
So answering again, this time from an educated stand-point. In the spirit of the dressing I'd still say no, but in the style of the dressing a definite possibly.

I would say no, it's a nymph. However, with the addition of a partridge hackle.....

Re: Question on size of fly
That must surely depend on what it is you are trying to imitate. ( or suggest) If it's a caddis it could be anything from a #6 down to a #18, of if it's an Olive it would most likely be from a #12 to a #16.Fontinalis wrote: What is the normal hook size that every one hear considers to use to fish with?
