Re: Maggot
Hans, these simple patterns are my favorites. I'm curious about the length of the camel fibers. The material I have is rather long in the staple (over an inch). Did you cut this or is it a prepackaged product? I have shied from camel for some time because of the length of the fibers. It seems there...

Re: Tutorials
Duly noted Hans....and I can't disagree with your position. Would you agree and abide with a democratic solution? Jim *chuckle* Jim, of course I will abide by a democratic arrived conclusion. I am Swiss, remember - we invented democracy. (Don't believe the claims by the ancient Greeks. Lies, all li...

Re: Tutorials
Jim,
I second a tutorial section. I disagree with you on limitations.
I feel this is about sharing, and if it came to be, the Tutorials board should be open.
Cheers,
Hans

video - Shuttlecock Caddis
The Shuttlecock Caddis is an effective variation on the standard Shuttlecock design. This Caddis Emerger is fished either in tandem with a sub-surface pattern, such as the Backstop Caddis , or by itself during a caddis hatch - generally to devastating effect. http://www.flytierspage.com/hweilenmann/...

A body addition would have added mass and bulk, without adding effectiveness. Less is more - bit like on North Country SpidersPremerger wrote:So too did calling it the Disembodied Caddis.
By the way, what happened to the body?

The Backstop Caddis , originated by Paul Slaney, is a caddis emerger pattern which is often fished in tandem with a bushy dry fly, or as a sub-surface pattern by itself. http://www.flytierspage.com/hweilenmann/backstop_caddis.jpg Backstop Caddis Hook: Tiemco 2499SP #14-18 Thread: Benecchi 12/0, toba...

Re: Black Caddis Patterns?
Have you been able to positively identify those as a caddis species? They appear almost smooth or shiny winged. I may be wrong but I recall caddis having a textured type of wing, a bit like a moth rather than a shiny smooth wing. Boris, Not to be pedantic but the answer lies in the Latin name for t...

Any coarse (dyed) black dubbing will work - black dyed squirrel or hare's ear perfect.tie2fish wrote:That looks like an excellent choice, Ray. Those of us who do not have the Argentinian hare for the thorax could probably get by with dark (real) hare's ear as a sub.
