Re: hook question

So basically it's just personal choice then. That works for me I suppose. I do like the looks of them because I believe they give the fly a certain look. I knew salmon fishermen like these hooks, and I never have met anyone fishing who had flies tied to these hooks. Then again, even though Colorado ...

hook question

I have been looking at many of the photo's of the flies on this forum, and I noticed, at least recently, many flies with hooks with an upturned eye.

What's the purpose for it? Does it have any advantages to hooking fish, or does it make the fly float differently in the water?

Re: BWO Splymph

That's a great looking fly that's definitely a fish catcher.

I have not been able to fish at all, so with all this time being home, I figure it's a good time to come up with whatever my imagination comes up with.

I like it. The colors look earthy, and flies like that have always done well for me.

Re: Edmonds & Lee

I have Edmonds & Lee's book, and I think it is pretty good compared to others that have been published before it by the other great fishing authors in the 1800's. As for this article, it seems the author is a little off from the truth, but more so probably due to his research. For example the school...

Re: Starting Over

Mercy Dubbn, you have a broad imagination when it comes to flies. Either that, or you live outside the box.

Those are brilliant looking flies. And I'm learning fast that when it comes to tying, there are no limitations.

Thanks for sharing them.

Those are awesome looking, and I like the one on the left the best. It doesn't even look like fur.

Re: Gray Grizzly Flymph

Ray, It's funny you say that about it being a good "one fly". When I was tying it I was thinking this could be the "Adams" pattern of the flymph world. I have always considered the Adams as the do all kind of mayfly pattern. I agree with you, because as soon as I saw the photo, for the first second...
