Re: one fly and one hook

Dogsled,
I like the thought process behind your choice and your final answer was very traditional, so who can complain. Well, I am sure someone could but that is life. Otto

Re: one fly and one hook

this thread was not intended to be a trick question but i can see what you mean. my second choice was going to be a black flymph/wooly bugger cross that works well for me but since most of my trout fishing is in tailwaters i went with the purple soft hackled fly.

one fly and one hook

just curious to know what you guys would pick if you had just one size and brand of hook in which to tie one type of fly to fish, what would it be? for me it would be a #19 tiemco 102y hook and purple and dun hen hackle. i am curious to see how you respond. thanks. otto

Re: Sulphur

a lot of my flies have a tups look to them and they are my most productive flies. i don't know why but the trout certainly do like them where i fish. when the sulphurs aren't hatching, purple seems to work best for me. maybe later i will post a picture of the purple fly.

Re: Sulphur

willowhead, the dubbing body is very sparse, although it may look heavy on the picture. usually i dunk the fly in the water before i cast the fly and the silk and mole dubbing absorb water. i do want the fly to ride high in the water column and i make another variation of this fly with just a silk b...

Sulphur

Still working on my photography due to the recent cold weather and wind. This is a soft hackled fly that I used this summer during the sulphur hatch on a nearby stream. It is tied on a #15 tiemco 102Y. Any comments are much appreciated and thanks for your past help. Otto

Re: recent ties

Karsten,
i am using an off white background, which may account for the odd color to the background. the auto timer is set for 2 seconds but i will keep fine tuning. thanks for your help and i here is one more. i am beginning to hate this fly!
