Here is one of mine that was inspired by the flymph flies. This is a simple wingless soft hackle intended for steelhead fishing.

" i am beginning to hate this fly! " (chuckle) In all seriousness, I think you've got it dialed in quit nicely. I like the size of the last one you posted. The 800 pixels allows the image to be expanded to see finer details. I generally settle on a finished image size of 640 to 800 pixels ...

I have had this problem too. I found a little trick that does wonders for the cosmetics (when that is the goal). Soak the fly, adjust the hackle collar and set the fly to dry overnight. Great trick for shaping all kinds of flies.

Question - Is the location of the head by design? I have seen this done to allow room for riffle/turle knots in some surface flies.
