Did these awhile back. Really liked the hackles.
That hackle is one of my favorites. I love the look of a more nuanced shift in tones and the thorax really looks amazing with the list if this hackle. That's a beautiful set.

Yes, thanks for writing more about the dye process. I have to try it. I like the idea of dyeing with natural materials. Thanks again.
Same here. I've dyed some white materials in a yellow RIT dye, but haven't tried the spice cabinet. These really came out nice.

Re: Rod length & action in spider fishing

I don't have a lot to offer beyond what's been said already, but I'll add my personal preferences. I like a longer rod, 9'-10' and I like a medium action. It's actually just right down the middle. There are often times when I'm trying to nymph or present dries, and the 9' 4 wt works in almost every ...

Re: Throstle Wing

That is a beauty. French partridge does make one of the more springy looking hackles. This looks like a good one.

Re: PMD emerger wet fly

John, that's a pattern that should work great and like Ray, I've seen more fish caught on Bill's emerger than I can count.

Re: Where to buy soft hackle bird skins

To my knowledge, Cookshill Fly Tying Materials in England offers the widest range of game bird skins and parts of any supplier, and, in my experience, their products are consistently of the highest quality. Owner/operator Steve gives personal attention to each customer that contacts him and maintai...

Re: Hook rants and other nonsense

I think ages is getting to me... I definitely prefer bronze hooks versus black nickle hooks. Maybe it is age, me too am older than last week, but I have the same preference for bronze hooks. I bet your experience is much more vast than mine, but confidence doesn't need to be based on science. In al...
