Re: A new wire Spider + Uprights
Nice to see the old Partridge Capt Hamilton hooks being used still. I still have a very few. They are very nice hooks. For those that don't know, the Capt Hamilton hook is named after Capt G D Hamilton who wrote a very early NZ book (now quite rare - a first edn can go several hundred dollars) whic...

Re: Hook Identification Questions
My thoughts: 1: 2: An earlier Partridge? 3: Mustad 37160 4: 5: Mustad 37160 6: Gamakatsu C15BV 6 I'm certain of - looks exactly what I have here, 3 and 5 not quite so certain but they look pretty close (- fairly confident) and 2 is but a guess. Looks like one I have here but not quite the same. Meth...

Re: Carey Special
On this particular fly, yes. Pitched well up in front of spooky browns cruising the shallows of a few lakes I know. The slow sink means I can wait a whole lot longer before the fish comes into the "zone" 8-) Other flies I like to be heavy 'cause the PLOP! they make is a sure fish attractor...

Re: Carey Special
like how you have tyed this nice and slender. Mine tend to have a plumper body. How many strands of peacock herl did you use to form the body? About 3 - 4 I think. From the eye herls. Twisted into a rope around the thread. Why that hook Willowhead? Because that was the hook packet I pulled out. Its...

A close cousin of the Carey Special. Made with Pukeko fathers and named in honour of our recently dearly departed English Cocker Spaniel Caspar after 13 highly entertaining years.

Re: A very disheartening conversation
I think this threads origins lay in philosophy. Everyone has a different way of doing things whatever it may be and this dude's way of learning or thinking abut fly tying is merely his way. Who are we to say its arrogant or wrong? I'm 48 and have been tying flies since I was 11. I am sure I am just ...

Re: Tying Station Design...Layout
Really? Wow! I knew it was sought after but not that much! I discovered around 1/2 dozen original tubes of the stuff around 10 years ago at a sale-out. About a dollar each... Grabbed the lot, gave one away and kept the rest; The unused tubes tucked safely away :) I started tying 35 - 36 years ago. S...
