It seems to mean beginner.

Re: Vanity of vanities, all is vanity

Andrew,
Instead, I use a cheap 39 cent bic lighter. (They run about a dollar at the convenience store. :? ) Just pinch the hackle between your fingers to protect it, and burn off the stragglers.
My stragglers are usually trapped hackle fibers over the eye.

Re: Partridge & Yellow with Pearsall's

Michael,
No interference at all. I learned something. I never considered that the tag might be there for a thread stop. I had just thought it was to provide a flash at the back of the fly, maybe as an air bubble.

Re: Fishing Knots - What do you use and why?

Another vote for the Duncan Loop.
My preference is because the knot does double duty. I only had to learn one simple knot to have a loop or to pull it up tight to the eye of the hook, if need be.

Re: Topic: Hook Finish

How many times have you seen bugs on the water "grab" whatever detritus was floating by? This might be a little more relevant when considering terrestrials than aquatics. The fish may take it as something else floating along with the food, and ignore it. I believe their looking for food, a...

Re: Blue Bottle V. Soft Hackle

Now, see! I have had a spool of this in my kit for while, with no real use for it. I never considered making a tinsel body on a soft hackle.
Pearl, Gold, Silver. Oh boy. Here I go again!
Thanks, Oldhat.

Re: magnification

I recently had to go to progressive lenses for every day wear. When I was in the chair, I asked the Eye-doc to up the highest magnification a bit to help with tying the small flies. I tie right-handed, with my vise to my left. My vise is also set below my chin, so I can keep my head level while tyin...

Re: Let us talk about heads some...

Thanks, Carl. I kept trying to see Peacock Herl, in that and was having a problem with it. ;) I figured maybe it was a lot better quality than I have.

I appreciate the help.
And, please, call me Kirk.
