Re: Visiting John Shaner (Fly Tying Historian)

John graciously played host to me this year in the early summer, albeit short, spending time with John is always rewarding. I can attest to this collection being absolutely astonishing. I just sat in bewilderment as John was laying out text after text, going into great detail about this and that wit...

Re: Quill-slip wings vs. Dabbler-type wings

Hey Blueback, Good question for sure. Dabbler wings are interesting for sure, not a style of winging used in the US a lot. Re: Nature Spirit's Snowshoe Rabbit Foot Dubbing

The Earth tones of this line of dubbing are really nice, I must admit. As the photo clearly shows, they make wonderful little flymph bodies.

It's worth buying. IN MASS QUANTITIES!

Re: Fox Squirrel patterns

Ray taught me, and some other a good way to gauge silk length for a body. He takes the spool and makes one wrap length wise around a standard dubbing block and cuts it. That doubled over makes a fairly good length to tie 1-1 flymphs in a 14-16 size range I find. Ray, maybe you posted something here ...
