Re: New Pearsall's Silk Substitute

This is probably against all the rules of the Brotherhood of the Flymph; however, I just use YLI white silk and color with a waterproof marker to anything I want. YLI 100 is about 30% finer than Persall's but it seems stronger to me.

Re: woodcock

Try the seller 'woodyshuts' on eBay UK. Had lots of soft hackle stuff the last time I got some.

Re: Dying Related - pH Control (mostly for Mr. Bailey)

The leveling dyes Bill refers to as being scare in the US are Kiton Dyes. Pro Chemical and Dye stopped selling this some time back; however, I was able to snag some off of eBay.

Re: Dying Related - pH Control (mostly for Mr. Bailey)

Bill is correct about Cushings Dyes. The other suppliers have a mix of leveling and milling dyes.

For a black black use a pre-metallized dye. A pain to use but a great result.

Re: Dying Related - pH Control (mostly for Mr. Bailey)

There are 3 principal types of acid dyes -- leveling, milling, and pre-metallized. The recommended pH range for these are: leveling pH 2-4, milling pH 3-5 and pre-metallized pH 6. The overlap in pH between the leveling and milling dyes lets you use vinegar or citric acid. The pre-metallized dyes req...

Barry,

Try Tiemco 102Y, japanned finish, limerick bend, odd sizes (15, 17, 19, 21).

Work great for me. Got mine at Blue Ribbon Files.

Re: Honey Dun Soft Hackle

Try the Colorado River at the Kemp-Breeze access right at dark. These usually hatch the same time the PMD's are coming off. My Texas friend used to own the fly shop in downtown Longmont. He's now living in Fredricksburg, TX. No more RV living since they bought a place. You know who I mean. Charlie

Honey Dun Soft Hackle

Here are a few soft hackles that I dressed to imitate a local pale evening dun. Used some honey dun feathers that I received as a gift from a friend now living in Texas. Size 14 Daiichi 1740 hooks.
