Re: The Color Orange

Roadkill, If I were trying to produce colors on three-dimensional material, then I would concern myself with the appropriate inks in CMY (cyan/magenta/yellow), a subtractive color scheme. However, I am referring to the diffuse light reflected from the object (or emitted from the monitor). It is ligh...

Re: The Color Orange

Orange really does work. Optically, orange is an interesting color. When we look at something orange on our monitor it is actually a mixture of Red and Green - because our monitors have red, green, and blue pixels. In equal proportions Red (R) and Green (G) make yellow. Add more R and you have Orang...

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Yes, the Wilton Town Hall Theatre has the latest in FF movies - Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. http://www.wiltontownhalltheatre.com/ Of course, active military personnel get in free, the popcorn is inexpensive, and sometimes they have a cartoon as well. I recall when they were showing "The Joy Lu...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

wayneb, Here is the taper for the 10' 6wt, which we originally thought was a Nichols. This is a very slow rod but it will pick up and shoot a lot of line with minimal backcasts. Of course, it requires intermediates. Being built pre-1900, it is of Calcutta cane, so using Tonkin cane will make it stif...

Re: Bamboo rods for flymphs

wayneb, I'm sure you have settled on a long bamboo rod taper by now. Many people have been discouraged by casting 9' or longer cane rods designed for bass bugging; I don't blame them. However, I have had quite a few 9'-10' rods in 3wt-6wt that were a joy to cast. As you mentioned, sufficient weight ...

Re: Moths

Putting you material;s in a freezer will not kill eggs. It will if that is where you store your liquid nitrogen. ;) Dealers in oriental rugs know all about moths. See http://www.jacobsenrugs.com/care.htm#moths and they recommend pyrethrins. Permethrin, a pyrethrin derivative, is the insecticide app...

Re: Moths

Camphor is an excellent moth repellent and yet has a pleasant smell to some (like me). It is a natural product, but in sufficient quantities can be seriously toxic, so the FDA has limited camphor to 11% in consumer products. The old moth balls used camphor. Members of the mint family contain camphor...

Re: Long Rod

I have a fifteen foot two-hander cane rod that I have been promising myself I would rewrap and fix some delaminations. That's never going to happen :D It is a very light-in-hand rod because the butt section is so thick that the center of it is hollow. I had visions of using a six weight line and enj...

Re: The Art of Fishing with Nymphs

Vicki, Have no fear, fly fishermen, especially those who seek trout, are not equipped with a libido. Maybe it is standing in cold running water up to the waist, perhaps it is OCFD (Obsessive Compulsive Fishing Disorder), but for some reason -- studies prove this -- a fly fisherman watching a svelte ...

Re: Hardy Featherweight reel

I still drool every time I see an old Hardy Perfect 3 1/8" left hand retrieve. Obviously, if I should ever own one, I would need to wear a bib or corrode the reel.
