Beaded Soft Hackle Nymph (tup's inspired)
I received some tiny glass beads in a thank you package for tying at a show this winter. I don't use beads much at all, but these said "tup's" to me. The photo pulls a little more white glare out of color of the bead. It has a very nice pinkish color. They have sat around and last month I ...

Re: Whitlock's Red Fox Squirrel - Flymph?
When weighted, no, it would be a nymph. Unweighted I would categorize it as a soft hackle, but not a flymph. Hidy was pretty particular in his definition of a flymph in the opening to "Fishing the Flymph" section of The Art of Tying the Wet Fly and Fishing the Flymph.

Re: Topic: Hook Finish
I think that is probably the biggest factor Philip and narcodog. How does the hook finish effect the overall appearance of the fly, especially when wet. A partridge and orange on a black hook is going look much different than a partridge and orange on a crystal hook. The fish must see the hook, but ...

Re: Partridge & Tups (variations)
Yes, thanks for the recipe. I like all the variations but I am particularly fond of the Variation #1. Very nicely done Ray.

Topic: Hook Finish
I am curious if anyone takes into consideration hook finish when tying or selecting a fly for fishing? I have been doing a little reading, not a lot out there but I have found some, on hook finish and if it makes any difference to the trout. I have never really put much weight into the finish of the...

Re: The Hunny Bunny
I really like the pattern Andy and the materials compliment each other well. Sounds like it really performed for you the other day. Thanks for posting the picture and sharing your new found interest in the wingless with us.

Re: Plover and Orange
Thanks everyone. I chose the pattern mainly just to complement the hook on this one. So I haven't fished with these hooks yet and to answer your question Andy, I don't know. Now I have fished the pattern many times before on other hooks and with partridge or grouse as well as the plover. Can't say I...

Plover and Orange
I have been playing with some new hooks I found. They are old Mustad- Crystal, 1827Y, Brass plated short shanked hooks. #15's. I found a lot of them but very few were good enough to photograph, most were fine for fishing, and many had to be trashed. A neat hook non the less. http://i907.photobucket....

Re: Question on size of fly
I too fish in the #6-#10 range. But for the most part, I'm fishing, as others have said, in the #12-#16 range. On lakes I predominantly fish in the #10-#12 range.
