Re: substitute for Pearsall's Primrose Gossamer

The Semperfli silk is considerably bigger than Pearsall's Gossamer. Colors appear to be correct, but really bulky thread. It also doesn't seem to be as finished as Pearsall's was.

Re: Up Eye Dry Fly Hooks

John, You owe me for a new keyboard. Mine's acting up after I drooled all over it after seeing those hooks. Very nice. There was a guy tying on Allcock hooks at a show, Albany, Oregon, I believe. Once he dressed the fly he gave it away to one of the folks watching. Someone mentioned that those were ...

Re: Up Eye Dry Fly Hooks

Zen. you can still find a few, but very limited in sizes. Last of the remaining stocks. My favorite sizes, 12 and 14 are very hard to find. Seems they are other people favorites as well.

No blue hare, but I do have some of Bill Bailey's dyed Kid Goat and Seal that are the perfect shade of blue. That is an impeccably dressed fly a...

Re: Bailey's Fly Tyer's Wax

Bill's tying wax is some great stuff. Been using it for years. I keep a small bit "parked" on my left index finger so I can wax thread as I'm tying. His Cobbler's Wax is mighty fine as well.

Up Eye Dry Fly Hooks

I've been helping out with our club's beginners tying class for over a month now. I've gotten to the point that I can actually dress a fairly decent fly again. While setting up our tying room in the new house I noticed that I was running low on my favorite Mustad R50UNP-BR hooks in sizes 14 and 12. ...

Re: Dana Reed's industrial size dubbing rake (DIY project)

A friend used to make them out of pieces of hacksaw blades. Using various TPI (Teeth Per Inch) determined how much guard hair you got in the mix. He just cut a slot in a dowel, glued in the hacksaw blade section and he was done. They worked very well.
