Re: Update on Pearsall's Gossamer

I use the black for ribbing on some flies. I've never been able to tie a fly with it either. Seems prone to breaking. I wax the brown silk with dark cobbler's wax until it's almost black.

Re: Pheasant Ostrich and Quail ("Hunting Dog")

Doug has no reason to apologize for finding this thread late. I, on the other hand, should offer profound apologies to Ray. So, Friend Ray, I apologize for finding this thread late, for not telling you sooner what a stunning fly it is, for not telling you how much I appreciate the thought and imagin...

Re: Shuck's Bead Caddis Larva

There is a pool just above the Falls Point Road Bridge on the Selway River where that fly will do wonders. I tied two similar flies and wore them down to bare hooks taking fish from that pool. Nicely dressed fly.

I just caught the part about the leaking waders. That makes for a truly miserable trip. Funny how one really nice fish makes it all worthwhile though.

I got cold just looking at that first picture. I am eagerly awaiting ice out here. Saw an ice breaker on the Penobscot River a couple days ago, so fishing would be difficult at best.

Lovely trout and nice fly. Every now and again you just have to show them something they haven't seen before.

Re: DIY Tool - Cuticle Trimmer/Velcro Brush Tool

Vickie is headed for the store to pick up a few things. I asked her to get a cuticle trimmer for me. Got an odd look, so I showed her this thread. We are getting two cuticle trimmers and velcro. We do have separate tying benches.

Bill Bailley's Liquid Tying Wax

For those that don't know, I recently started tying again after about a seven year absence due to problems with my eyesight. Long story short, I got my Type II Diabetes under control and my eye sight improved enough that I am able to tie with magnification. I figure for 72, that ain't bad. I needed ...

Re: Snipe and Yellow

Tom, Did I see that lovely dressing on Facebook as well, in the soft hackle flies forum. If I'm mistaken, please forgive. Very nicely done.

Re: Emma Variant (Gunnar Johnson Flympher Pattern)

As always, Ray, beautifully dressed flies and brilliant tutorial. If you would self publish a book with your flies and tutorials in it, I'd buy it, no question. It would have to be autographed so I could say "I knew him when."

Re: Blue Winged Olive

Every now and again I've been known to don my tweed cap, grab my 7'6" 4 weight cane rod along with the Baby Ballan reel, loaded with a hand made silk line and go fishing. Fish the morning rise, stop about noon and spread my line over some bushes to dry and have a short nap stream side. Upon wak...
