Cane and silk glass rods

So someone from the group mentioned glass rods by a guy under the brand cane and silk. I found his page and they look amazing with a cheap price. Read reviews and everyone who ordered one had nothing but good things to say about them. I'm ready to pull the trigger but his website is very primitive a...

Re: Plover & Yellow; Does the Hook Change the Look?

I didn't even notice the one on the left on the green hackle pliers. What hook is that? I think spiders look great on straight ring eyes too. My go-to has been a mustad 3366 for quite a while but I just got a new model from diaachi in the mail yesterday. It's a straight eye, fine wire hook with a li...

Re: Diamondback Rod

@mike62 thank you! I'm really glad I checked this thread again. I just Googled cane and silk and it popped up. For 150 and being able to pick all the colors and components I'm going to buy one. They are shorter than what I wanted but that's ok. He's got pictures of the tip top bent all the way aroun...

Re: The holy grail!

@partsmam I actually stumbled across one today. It was for sale from some online fly shop out of Montana and was a Hebert miner labeled as a watery dun not a honey dun. Google it and see if you can find it. It was 30 bucks. Yes Ron it's a shame. This one is a vintage Whiting, but probably not any mo...

The holy grail!

Since most folks here use a handle rather than a name I'll assume it's for anonymity and not name drop....but a HUGE thank you to the gentleman from the group that sold me the holy grail of hen hackle, a light honey dun! And for a very reasonable price. Pictured with it is Hidy's watery dun dressing...

Re: Plover & Yellow; Does the Hook Change the Look?

Yeah I agree for classic patterns like that an up eye is definitely the way to go and I do like the partridge Supreme because it's short. With that said I have been tying some historic north country spider patterns on a firehole pupa hook that I got to play around with some kebari style flies and I ...

Re: Chocolate dun

Yes of course. The body is hares ear and cheek dyed dun, gray squirrel with the guard hairs left in, and a pinch of muskrat spun on "ramen" colored kimono silk. Ramen is somewhere between a creamy tan and gray. Tail- 3 whisks of a barred light dun hen hackle Abdomen- as described above Hac...

Chocolate dun

I think I've FINALLY got my flymphs to the point where I am happy with them and the vision in my head lines up with the end result on the hook. Size 18 but it's a firehole so more like between a 16 and 14.

Soft hackle PT

I'm tying about a million Carey's Specials to fill a few customer orders and had to break up the monotony. I had a phesant skin laying on my bench and a super pretty church window was sticking up so I plucked it and this is what I came up with. Hook- size 12 fire hole pupa Tail/abdomen- phesant tail...
