Re: DIY Tool - Cuticle Trimmer/Velcro Brush Tool
Most clever, Ray ... combining the last two steps of the tying process in one simple, practical tool. This would easily replace my find/pick up/employ-razor-blade-to-trim-thread, followed by find/pick up/employ old toothbrush-to-brush-out-body-and-hackle. Kudos!

Re: Emma Variant (Gunnar Johnson Flympher Pattern)
What a wonderful fly that makes, Ray! And your presentation of the process is simply outstanding -- visually appealing and technically informative. You should be doing POV videos, my friend. On the other hand, a collection of SBS efforts like this would make a nice little book, too (hint, hint )

Re: Tups Indispensable
I'm sure you're right, Bob. The "final" color of the ram's wool is no doubt a function of how blonde he was to start with, how old he was when he got shaved, how much cleaning was done to the fur, etc., etc.

Re: Tups Indispensable
While following a link provided elsewhere by wsbailey, I navigated my way to a redux of the website of Preben Torp Jacobsen (see "flyleaves.dk"). After switching on the Translate feature, I began reading some of his fascinating posts, one of which deals with the Tups Indispensable pattern ...

Re: Jim Leisenring in "American Trout Fishing"
Thank you, John -- a tasty piece indeed. Some folks are not aware of the close connection between JL and Dick Clark even though they use the "Clark" spinning block to create the fly bodies that JL made on his pants leg. Our fellow member Lance Hidy has made good strides in documenting and ...

Don't know if he originated it, but he surely has spread the word.FlyFisherMann1955 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 6:06 pm
Tie2fish - I appreciate your comment. You're correct--I watched a video where Hans Weilenmann did a demo of the split thread technique. Do you know if he originated that technique?

Re: Blue Winged Olive
This pattern has worked well for me on mid-Atlantic, Cumberland Valley and N. Central PA spring creeks where the "olives" tend to be small most of the time. Hook: Small dry fly (#18 - #22) Thread: Griffith's Sheer, 16/0, grey or olive Hackle: Light blue dun hen Abdomen: Stripped natural pe...

Re: Leisenrings Old Blue Dun
That's a beauty, Tom. The proportions and color are what I expect on a JL tie of that pattern. (Personally I would build a teeny bit more taper into the abdomen, but that's just me channeling Pete Hidy. )
