Re: Pearsall's and Twisted Thread Dubbing

A beautiful fly.

I particularly like the segmentation clearly evident near the bend.

Re: Possum Pelt Processing.

I've been looking forward to this -- and it far, far exceeded expectations. And the video (the extra link) made it all extremely clear.

Outstanding!

Thanks for doing this. I'm now looking forward eagerly to the next installments.

Re: Furby Nymph

Weren't Furbies the little critters in that movie that you weren't supposed to get wet  , or feed after midnight? Or am I thinking of another movie?? Re: Preparing Bird Skins

Thanks, Ruard! I generally put new skins into the freezer for a few days, take them out for a few days (to theoretically let any potential eggs thaw and hatch) and then back into the freezer for a few more days. I don't know if it matters (and mightn't the newly hatched critters potentially lay more...

Re: Preparing Bird Skins

Howdy all, So the drying appears all taken care of (and has been for a while... life intervenes). I'll post pictures a little later. My question now is: to wash, or not to wash? I've received both pieces of advice from friends who do their own skins. One said just to brush off the borax unless absol...

After roughly 48 hours: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y449/scullionchilds/swap%20flies/spidermonkey1of2_zps13fe7169.jpg And here's the head. I'll definitely go with the spoon (and the mason jar cap - that's a great idea) next time. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y449/scullionchilds/swap%2...

Re: Preparing Bird Skins

Thanks all for the kind comments. If everyone is comfortable with a possible "blood & guts" photographic essay of stripping the hide from an Australian Possum and the preparation of the pelt for possible overseas postage, I will run a similar series. :) That'd be great! The wings had b...

Preparing Bird Skins

I got a call from a buddy this morning, who told me he wanted to work his new dog. Would I be interested in some feathers, he wondered, were he to get lucky? I said, "Heck yeah," and he called me a few hours later to say they had been successful -- in fact, he had skinned out a male and fe...
