Well, I finally got to go out and do some fishing. Caught a few brookies on a pheasant tail soft hackled fly, the weather was nice and the leaves were amazing. Need to get tying and ready for the swap.

I really don't have a great answer as to why I twist the wire but my thought process was focused on trying to keep the proportions of the fly correct (with large diameter wire) but still get a heavy fly that would quickly sink. I was also trying to avoid the use of a bead head. You could double the ...

I am sorry but I don't know how much better this picture is going to be. My camera was acting up and the lens was dirty but perhaps next time I will do better. I was fishing a mountain stream that has a section roughly 100 yards long that is a bit wider than most I fish, perhaps 30 to 40 ft in width...
