Re: A March Brown Soft Hackle

I've never witnessed a large hatch on the Gunpowder, I fact, I've never witnessed a big hatch of them anywhere. I don't think I've ever seen more than about 10 in the same day. On those days, though, the fish definitely seem to notice them. Perhaps because they're so sparse, and are large enough to...

Re: Fishing?

William -
You certainly didn't miss anything by not staying home. Everything around here is blown out, too.

Re: The upstream wet fly

For someone unfamiliar with the thoughts and writings of Stewart, Pritt, etc, etc, I'd recommend it. But if you've already read books by or about these anglers then I'd say that it may disappoint you. I'd agree. I'm only about half way through, but it's tough sledding. Even though I've read most of...

Re: Spring Grey Tenkara

You don't need a tool (other than a finger), to do a haf hitch. ;) Or a whip finish for matter. My finger's way too fat to fit up under that hackle ... Bill - I'm right with you on that one. My point was that just because you don't need a tool, it doesn't mean you can't do a better job wi...

Re: Fishing?

After a really good day last Saturday, I thought that I was going to make a serious run at a 100 trout month. With the rain we've had, though, it's not going to happen, at least this weekend. I will say, though, that the Waterhen Bloa has been as good to me this April as it has every April for the l...

Re: Partridge Breadcrust

William, Myself, I'd prefer one of our ties, or the original one using the grouse tail. It is a pain getting the feathers ready for wrapping. I've entertained the thought that the Breadcrust is so effective because of the scent of blood from where I've cut myself splitting the grouse tail. It just ...

Re: So much for Spring.

For the life of me, I can not see the fun in catching fish that were just placed in the water. If stocking is a necessity, as it seems to be, here, for God sake, give them a chance to survive the change in their environment and get accustomed to living on their own. Stockies are not good on the tab...
