Cheers,

Indeed you did. I was quite deliberate. I deliberately packed up the rod and sent it to the maker for repair ... after deliberately cursing my stupidity.

Re: Taking a cane rod apart with cold hands
An approach you way want to consider is to use your thigh muscles to aid the process. Place rod behind your legs, in the crook of your knees - and your hands holding the rod, on the outside of each thigh. Your hands are tasked to guide/hold the rod, and keep it straight - while pushing your legs ap...

William, What some might call "obsession", others (including me) would call "thoroughness". More power to you! If you have already received the Berroco UAF1214, and if it is NOT dye lot 2J9711, I will send you a sample of my yarn. Adding another yarn to your stash would increase ...

Re: Taking a cane rod apart with cold hands
I have the same problem. Not with salmon, but with cold tired fingers. I use two tools that allow a better grip of the rod sections. The first is a pair of rubber jar openers (as described above). http://i.imgur.com/Bm8lH1h.jpg I fold a jar opener over each section of the rod, and they give a much b...

Re: Tying in Hackle
My own view of this centuries old dilemma... Most feathers used for soft-hackled flies are triangular in shape, some more than others. Feather barbs near the base of the feather are longer than those near the tip. Barbs of the finished fly look best to me when the longer barbs are forward (closer to...

Re: Clark Spinning Block
Looks gorgeous! What for rod are you fishing if you don't mind me asking? Tomorrow is opening day. . I'm going to try and get away from the crowds. I own a handful of bamboo rods that I use as conditions warrant. Yesterday was windy (15 mpg, gusting to 25 or 30), so I needed a pretty stout rod. The...

Fishing with Frank... Yesterday I tested in southwestern Wisconsin some Sawyer Killer Bugs tied with the Ultra Alpaca Fine yarn. Two thumbs up! I fished a size #16 Killer Bug in tandem with a couple of my favorite wingless wets. The Killer Bug outfished a soft-hackled sow bug, and was on par with a ...

Re: Short Shank vs. Longer Shank hooks
My bookshelf has grown beyond any reasonable limit. Like airplanes stacked up over O'Hare, new arrivals have nowhere to land. If, however, I was forced to choose one and only one book that discusses the traditions, methods, and tactics of tying and fishing wet flies and wingless wets, it would be Ro...

Everything anyone needs to know about trout hook mechanics is in Datus Proper's, "What the Trout Said". It was profoundly influential and his conclusions are hard to refute. Everything anyone needs to know about fly tying period is in Datus Proper's What the Trout Said . Best fly tying bo...
