Fly Fishing Poem

I was reading through a post about a particular wet fly from a book titled The British Anglers Manual. Looking through it on the internet archive I came across this poem. ** He shakes the boughs that on the margin grow, Which o^er the stream a waving forest throw, When, if an insect fall (his certai...

Re: Wax question

While we're on the topic of tying wax, any tips for getting it out of the insides of your ceramic or metal tube bobbin holder? I've thought of heating mine up with a lighter and spitting whiskey through it, which might be fun... I used to have a bobbin and a bobbin cleaner. Don't recall the brand. ...

Re: Wax question

I use Baily's wax and like it alot. I also got some wax as part of my Santa swap gift this Christmas. It's from Gunpowder Custom Tackle. I haven't tried it yet. It's #621 and I have to find out if that's harder or softer wax. They list 3 different numbers on the package plus cobblers.

i used 3 sets of wings to get this one right
I hear you. Every once in a while I get one just right the first try. lol Usually mine are too long, too short or cocked to one side. Yes, I've gone through 2 or 3 pairs of wings per fly. :(

Re: Emerald

I agree, that's a beauty. I've been into tying some winged wets lately and for me they're some of the hardest flies to get right. I wonder if I'll ever be good at tying on wet fly wings? The proportions on your fly look excellent.
