Re: Leisenring Style
Kelly - Can you explain how this one is used? The design is a little different than any other ones I have seen. I am interested to know it the techniques are different with this type.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
I tyed a couple flies with my Hat Eyes on this afternoon. They worked quite well, but I agree with you. My jeweler type (head-band mounted) magnifiers do a better job. I just don't want to use the head-band type when doing a tying demonstration. Probably time for a new set of glasses anyways.

Re: Steelhead/Salmon Flymphs..... ;>)
Hank - Here are a couple pictures of the color wheel that I use when I need ideas for color combinations. Keep in mind that this is just a general guide. Don't limit yourself to these color combinations only. Some folks just seem to have a knack for picking color combos. I am not one of them. I chea...

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Mark - I just opened my Christmas presents from my parents and they got me a pair of the 2.25 power Hat Eyes magnifying glasses (the ones with the metal frame for mounting on the brim of a baseball cap). Man, are these things awesome. I just started playing around with them and I think these are goi...

Re: 2012 Fore & Aft attempt for Roadkill
Nice fly, mate. Looks like a very lively pattern. I imagine the hackle would be wiggling around very seductively at the slightest current. Definitely a "come hither" pattern.

Here are a number of additional links which discuss various design of dubbing spinning blocks used to form Leisenring-style dubbed silk chenille bodies: http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2450&start=10 (Discussion of Leisenring-style method) http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.p...

Re: Leisenring Style
Bob - I copied the one in Allen's book when I built mine. I later found another version of a "spinning block" in Darrel Martin's book "The Fly-Fishers Craft" (pages 100 thru 104). Darrel's version has a shallow groove running the length of the block. He also has a slightly diffe...

Re: Leisenring Style
Thank you Donald. This is a great reference drawing. I had never seen this drawing before. I notice a couple differences (the Vee-groove and only two brass brads) when compared with the one I made. It is interesting to notice both brads are used in the process of forming the silk dubbing brush. Aga...
