I tie several peacock bodied soft hackle variations using using a wire wrapped peacock body; partridge, hen, starling, etc.hackles for some very effective fishing. Using a lime green thread for the head and butt, creates a nice egg laying caddis variation.

I have one just like the bottom pic and another slightly lighter...both from Dave Roberts. I think I might have posted a pic of it awhile back. Makes very nice soft hackled dressings.

For several years, I did buy pheasant tails in various places, including (once) at a flower shop where the PTs were being used in floral arrangements.
