Re: HOOKS !

Would it not be, for example, a sz 14 1x long has the same shank length as a standard sz 12? And sz 14 1 x short has the shank length of standard sz 16. Is this what you are asking for? dd Would I be wrong in thinking that your explanation is actually two hook sizes different? I know here in the st...

Re: A little different approach....

It has been some months back now that Doug and I struck up some PM conversations which resulted in an exchange of several flies. Doug's ties have found a central location on my tying bench so that from time to time I can reference his along with others that I have received over the years serving as ...

Re: looking at chickens....

Well Doug you have me chuckling a bit here this morning. You see this past Saturday afternoon found me meandering thru the poultry exhibit at our county fair also. Now that I think about it I'm sure I was the only one with my nose up tight to the cages to better judge the quality of the feathers. We...

Re: Tying style.

Once our skills are honed neatness certainly does seem to play a part at least for me in fishing a fly with confidence. Sort of foolish perhaps as usually that representative looks nothing like its former self once a few fish have chewed on it. With that how often have we heard of fish continuing to...

Re: Connemara Black

While discussing head cements and I too use Sally's or some sort of clear nail polish or as I'm using now Acu Tone nail hardener I'm getting up in the years and forgetful I'm sorry to say. All to often the cap is not tightened down and the stuff gets a little heavy. With that I shopped for a thinner...

Re: Some Alice Conba flies (warning: picture heavy!)

Hankaye I suspect what you are seeing is nothing more than the butt end of one of the hackle barbs. Notice on the bottom and about in that same area a bit of orange thread showing also. Really one needs to marvel at the perfection that goes into these flies as they are enlarged from actual size seve...

Re: Some Alice Conba flies (warning: picture heavy!)

Hans perhaps you might be able to answer this question. I have often viewed your site and the the lovely ties of Alice Conba. Now today viewing these ties of Alice can you tell me if these are of a repetitive build for each pattern? Perhaps a silly query but I'm usually good for a couple of a patter...

Delicate little gems I'd say. Nicely done.
