Re: BWO

Ray,

I used Wonder Wax on those flies. Today, I took photos with a different light and hopefully it shows the colors of the first fly a bit better. They are not quite as dark as the first photo makes them out to be.

Re: BWO

I do tie on 18's and 20's and perhaps need to go back and try tying on them, see if I get more hook-ups

Re: BWO

I use a lot of #16 hooks and just tie the fly proportionally smaller, so that it looks like a #18. Are you using #18 and #20 hooks?

Re: BWO

DJ1212 Not sure why a darker color works but the BWOs where I fish are dark in color. This is another pattern that I use when the BWOs are hatching. I use orange silk and heavily, heavily wax it and it comes pretty close to the color. Hook: Dohiku 302 #16 Body: Heavily waxed orange silk Thorax: Natu...

Re: BWO

the color disparity is probably the result of both the Solarez, which tends to darken threads and not the best camera. I am just using my cell phone

Yesterday, I managed to fish a tailwater river in Tennessee with a good friend of mine. It was rainy and in the low 40's and did well swinging a #16 BWO. Here are two pictures of the fly

Hot spots

This weekend, I finally had a chance to get out and swing some soft hackle flies. The day before, I tied a few last minute flies (#16 hooks) and put a small amount of orange glo-bright thread as a tail to serve as a hot spot. My friend is big into Euronymphing and constantly talks about a hot spot o...
