Are you cutting the raffia into narrow strips with scissors (free-handed) or do you use some other method that results in a consistently wide strip?

The "classic" (black & silver) zebra midge. What other colors do you find successful?

I tied this version with Blue-eared pheasant herl as a substitute for Heron. Boy is it fragile. It's tied over Pearsall's Gossamer (Ash / #10). I like this fly lightly hackled, so I removed the fibers from 1 side of the feather.

Wow and again--Wow! I dream of finding a fly like this in my vise. The tag and the head don't even look like they are thread wraps. It's wonderful how the thread is visible through the dubbing (almost like a rib). Did you use a dubbing rope? And the "spread out" hackle just finishes the fl...

I keep returning to this post; I guess I'm hooked! I watched the video, did a little reading, and tied a few that I mailed off to someone who has more opportunity to fish than I do right now. Then I watched the video again and realized I missed an important part. It's about "thread control"...
