Re: Anxious

A couple other options would be Blue Ribbon Flies, Dette’s or Cabelas. I’ve had good luck with materials from all three. Thanks Ray. I already bought one online from Charlies Flybox (Charlie Craven) and am in the process of securing another one from a fellow named Grant Bench. He runs a FaceBook pa...

Re: So ugly

So this fly could possibly be another fly good for our runoff here in Colorado? I must try it. My buddy that lives in Westminster pounds the fish at Deckers, and Shadow Mountain with this pattern. During peak runoff. Its been a winner for over 5 years. I use this pattern now on the Roaring Fork. If...

Those patterns have saved my butt more than once on blown out systems.
Dai-Riki #270?
Thanks Rick. The hook is the Umpqua U203. Same thing. Do you tie the same pattern?

What signs/conditions do you look for, to know when to fish these?

Ray, upstream flooding. Anything that can wash away the bank and release these in the river system.

So ugly

Can anyting be more ugly than flyfishing (nymphing) with a size 6 Cranefly Larva?  They work about two times a year. The Squirmy material used for the body will break down before I use all four. If using EBT funds were needed to use a pattern, this is the pattern to tie.  8-) h...

Re: Anxious

Thank you Ray. The fishing has been off the charts for me during run-off. The flies being gorgeous? Nah, functional. I just purchased two Partridge skins as I am out of feathers for sizes 14 to 18 on my skins. I dont mind over sized Partridge, but there comes a point I have to break down and buy a c...

Anxious

I had a good day yesterday. If I told you the amount of Bows caught you would call me a liar. They were all taken on large Stone nymphs and a DNA worm. The two largest were 24 inchers. All taken deep nymphing in high murky water. Just before the time I made my last cast, I was not thinking of catchi...
