Re: Turkey tail
Thank you, Steve. That's a cool looking feather that I don't think we'll be seeing in the fly shops anytime soon.

Re: Turkey tail
I have been most intrigued by this thread, especially Steve's comment that Johnson called for a "mottled secondary with buff tip, not the black banded primary shown here." Do turkey tails have secondaries? Recently I was most generously given a copy of Gunnar Johnson's Med Fluga (With Fly)...

Re: Usk Naylor (variation)
This pattern has really caught my attention and I am anxious to give it a swing come sping. I have come across another version of the Usk Naylor/Nailer which appears to be tied for a decidedly different use than swinging downstream. I thought some would enjoy the link. Not to worry, Hank - nothing t...

Re: DC's Hedgehog
William, Your curiosity regarding habitats for #12 scuds prompted me to contact my friend Dennis to let him know that one of his patterns was being discussed on the flymphforum. Regarding the comments on scud hook size he said, "l have found concentrations of Gammarus scuds in Wyoming lakes tha...

Re: Shakey Bealy Isonychia
The Shakey Bealy is truly an amazing pattern - one needs to see it in on stream fishing. The d rib modification is, if I may say, is a stroke of genius.

Re: Diving Sedge
Redsedge, yes, no Antron. In my own experience it bulks the pattern too much & tends to pin the pulsing action of the wing. There aint much to these (the naturals), & they aren't as sparkly as the newly emerged. The spinner is wan & faded, so I figure the color/light of the silk body is...

Re: Diving Sedge
I like both versions of of your versions of this fly, Steve. The silk-bodied fly you post here is quit elegant, and I will have to tie some for my foray into RMNP this week. Your fly(s) lack the small amount of sparkle yarn (antron) for under-wing that Gary LaFontaine includes in his pattern. Just s...

Re: Deer Hair Emerger
Upon seeing the title to your post I expected to see some variation on Bob Wyatt's DHE, a fly with which I have had very little success - if the wing is tied too long the fly topples over, and I have had trouble keeping it afloat. I am quite intrigued by the design of your emerger with decidedly dif...
