Re: Natural by manipulation?

DD I suspect you are misreading what i am saying. I too hope that Mike can add some more detail to what he has written here already on manipulation and if he has the time and interest I would be the first to encourage him to do so - nay, its such an important area I would near beg him to do so ;) I...

Re: Tying Station Design...Layout

Thank you, William. Sparse and neat - just like your flies. Well thought out and well made. No surprise there.

Re: Natural by manipulation?

It is impossible to build a house from only one brick, no matter how big that brick is. It is possible to build a big house, brick by brick, even if they are small. There are always people prepared to declare things almost, or totally, impossible. This is an attitude that sometimes upset me, at othe...

Re: Confession.

Really? I just use the medium and large J Dorin tear drop style and love it. I have toyed with a couple of the rotary type things and they felt awkward, would take some getting used to, and I didn't spend any. If you say it makes a difference...I may have to check those out. I'll make a confession ...

Re: Natural by manipulation?

What a little question that is. I think Mike will require a new keyboard or a thought recognition system never mind a voice recognition system to answer this one. If mike can put into words specific manipulations for specific insects/insect groupings I believe it would be the most unique insight in...

Natural by manipulation?

I would love to read about what can be achieved by various ways of manipulation ones flies and what is needed in flies and fishing equipment to do this. As can be understood, this topic is a result of what Mike has written in other threads but anybodys input is welcome. I realize that it can be diff...

Re: Wingless wet or not?

Regarding the glymphs - they sure look fishy. Regarding "Commercialism and general bullshit" and being jaded - it is quite understandable. I am quite ambivalent in this regard. Usually I think there is nothing wrong if people can make a living supplying other people with what they need or ...

Re: Wingless wet or not?

It doesn't pay to be dogmatic, these flies are sometimes fished as wets and sometimes as dries. http://donaldnicolson.webplus.net/page110.html They are called West Country wet-flies but are as often fished as dries. ;) Yes, how we dress - and how we fish - a fly decides what it is intended to repre...

Re: Wingless wet or not?

My intention with this question was not really to discuss this fly, even if it is interesting by itself. I was asking myself "what defines a wingless wet"? I saw this fly and thought "what if you tie it upside down"? Would it still be a winged fly? What decides? The intention, th...
