Magpie
Would anyone be willing to reach in to their bag of tricks and sell me a magpie tail feather? Even a small, crappy or half used one. Not looking for a deal, I'll pay retail. I just dont want to buy 10 and that's the only source I've found.

Re: Wax question
I can't figure out the message either. Message old hat and have him give you my number or email or have him give me yours and I'll get you fixed up. I just poured a huge batch for a fly shop and to catch up on orders and will drop a few pieces in the mail to you.

Re: Wax question
Lisenring gives a pretty short but concise description of what he likes in a wax if you have his book. I make both tying and dubbing wax as well as some other folks here. I'm happy to send you some samples if you're not currently tying with wax because you should be haha

Re: Wax question
Oh man it is a rabbit hole indeed. I'm not really a historian and don't claim to be THE authority on the subject but I do make and sell waxes and know a fair amount. I would say the differences historically speaking are all kind or relative because everyone had their own recipes and made it how they...

Re: HELP!
Thank you all I've been practicing this technique and gotten pretty good at it and even developed a technique of my own that's along the same lines. Probably not MINE in all fairness but I've never seen anyone else do it. If anyone is interested it's quite simple and quite hard to screw up, I'd be h...

Re: Tups Indispensable
I love tups threads! The tups is a rabbit hole all its own and I always get excited when the topic pops up. I even tie them far to large (size 10) and on a curved shank klink style hook and find they make excellent panfish flies. I believe my Christmas swap recipient got one. But I have a question.....

Re: Buttonhole twist
Mike- I totally agree. commercial blends and really most other people that aren't total nerds like we are this forum are either much too red or much too pink. Or just basically a spectral pink. I'm really surprised that a man like lisenring who paid attention to every little detail missed the mark s...

Re: Buttonhole twist
Letumgo-yes etsy is a great source for many silk threads and flosses. I met a lady with an etsy shop that is a costume maker and has a TON of English silks. She was getting so many requests from fly tyers she started carding her silks off the old bulk spools for us. As Mr. Bailey suggested Belding l...
