Re: Pale Evening Dun

Thanks guys, I liked the pattern as well when I saw it in the book. I using a split thread twist. Untwisting the thread, splitting it apart, putting the dubbing in then twisting it up again. What I'll do is after splitting the thread, I dub one of the strands a little tighter at the top then just a ...

Pale Evening Dun

I picked up a book at a clearance table at a show this spring titled Tactics on Trout by Roy Ovington, (1969). He listed this recipe in the appendix for a Pale Evening Dun or Little Marryat nymph pattern. Hook: #14 Silk: primrose yellow Tail: 3 mandarin flank feather fibers (tips) Body: Cream-tan fu...

Wee little wets

This is a group of wee wets that I tied up for our local club raffle. All of these are #20's and smaller. it has been a while since I tied up this small of flies. I used to tie quite a few of #20 to #22's for a couple spring rivers nearby. The water was catch and release only with picky trout and cr...

Re: Copper Pheasant

Just looked good in the daylight. :D I liked the dun coloring and the tips coincided well with the yellow PT I was using. Not a real heavy nymph so it won't go too deep. Now if you wanted to go deeper and fish it as a nymph then the shorter hackles would be a good idea. Actually I chose the plover b...

Re: Rearview Caddis

Well, I came up with this pattern after moving to central Oregon where the streams are just full of all kinds of caddis. This particular pattern is for the Grannom caddis. I had been playing around with a lot of realistic style case caddis and heavy nymph style cased patterns. Never really had much ...

Rearview Caddis

Copper Pheasant

Inspired by the original pheasant tail nymph. Photo inspired by Letumgo. :D I didn't use thread only the copper wire to attach materials and form a twist with the pheasant. Hook: Mustad 1921R #12 Thread and Rib: fine copper wire Body: pheasant tail fibers dyed golden/yellow Hackle: golden plover htt...

Re: Good Looking Flies

Nope, thank you Mark for giving us a "here" to call home.

I'm having the opposite but same problem, cold Spring, record rains in May and the rivers are still too cold and high with snow melt to fish. A week or two more though and we should be cooking.
