Orange Tag Furnace
I have had this pattern for a while. I saw a similar winged version somewhere a few years ago. (may have been on Donald's site?). I think it was called an Orange Stinger or something to that effect. I liked the look enough to make it a wingless. I have fished both versions winged and wingless with n...

Nicely done. That dubbing sure shows a nice sheen to it.

Re: The Addict's Box
Thanks everyone. It's hard to appreciate the selection that is in "the Addict" or any other book for that matter until you can tie them up and see them side by side. The selection Nemes put together as his top 20 really is a nice selection of patterns, without a doubt a lot thought and exp...

Dean's Black
Here's another one from the "Addict". I had never tied this fly before, but I really like the pattern. Hook: 1x long nymph hook Thread: black Body: 2/3's peacock heavy, 1/3 black wool or fur ( used angora wool) Rib: heavy silver wire Hackle: Partridge dyed iron blue dun http://i907.photobu...

Re: Sparse Dressing on large hooks discussion
Thanks for revitalizing the thread. I feel better now. :D I like the look and feel of the short wide gape hooks, anxious to see how they work on the small patterns this year. I wasn't paying real close attention in those days to the insects but did make a few observations. In current, most insects j...

Re: Quality issues.
I have found the masks from hare line, for the most part, good quality for dyed hare. However, for natural, you can't beat a European mask which I think are superior in color and texture. I'm a pawer. I like to paw through materials first hand especially for natural materials.

Re: Why the First?
You guys can sit and tie a half dozen of the same pattern? I can rarely get out three of the same pattern. I always have the desire to tweak the pattern just a bit. :D Honestly though, I'm usually happy with the pattern by the 3rd or 4th fly. tie2fish - I know what you mean about the reject box. I h...
