For soft hackles I probably best like thread body with a light touch dub fur ( and my preferred fur is from the back of the common house/field mouse..) either with or without a rib (which is usually a fine gold wire - and which I don't have any of at the moment. :cry: ) Why? Just because I do. :)

Indeed! Which is why all Irish flies must only be tested in Tullamore Dew... (Its the only whiskey worth drinking anyway ;) )

Of course the finest and most expensive gin would have to be used to simulate Chalk stream waters...... 8-)

For New Zealand waters? Maybe Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc or Canterbury Riesling....

I prefer "Soft Hackle mainly because I'm used to it I suppose. Anyway whats in a name? Not that important in the big scheme of things. As long as fish keep eating 'em :)

Its a Sub as I have no Heron herl (Hence the "or Sub" in the materials list) and is olive dyed Mallard Flank. Its quite a good colour the mallard, for a small hydropsyche caddis we have here, so I have stuck with it. I have some grey goose which I coloured with an olive pantone marker and ...
