Re: Partridge & Yellow

Very cleanly dressed fly. It may be my computer screen and it's color rendition, but the yellow silk has a slight green tint to it, as if it were waxed with cobbler's wax. Just curious if that was the case. Beautiful fly.

Re: Pink Lady

Hank, That last one looks a lot like Jim Slattery's Triple Threat Caddis with a color change. Great info, thanks for sharing. I remember getting off work at Jim's in June and July and there were small black caddis all over the place. I tied some small black dry flies (yeah, I know...Dries?) and coul...

Re: YL1 vs Pearsall's Gossamer

Since I'm starting to run low on certain colors of Pearsall's Gossamer, I have joined the search for a replacement. I tried the SemperFli True Silk, which was way to thick. The colors were close, at least to my 72 year old eyes, but lacked the sheen and finish of the Pearsall's. My assortment of YLI...

Re: Primrose Silk Comparison

The Semper Fli Pure Silks that Bill posted are for sale at a few places in the US. Average price is $5.25 to $5.50 a spool. May have to try a few just to see what it's like. Colors seem to be close to Pearsall's.

Re: Deer Fly

Beautifully dressed fly. During summer Maine has an abundance of deer flies. I will be tying a few of these to take to our local streams. Well done.

Wow! Gorgeous fly, Ray. Superb tying, as always. Is this your own pattern? Can't get over how fishy that looks.

Re: Eurasian Collared-Dove - Reference Photos

The Collared Doves were/are a nuisance bird in WA State, forcing out the smaller, native, Mourning Dove. Our bird feeders were besieged by the critters when we lived in western WA. Haven't seen one here in Maine, thankfully. We do have a flock of about 20 Mourning Doves, plus close to a dozen wild t...

Re: Split-thread spring caddis

Mike62, My wife and I just moved to central Maine (Carmel, near Bangor). Since moving in 10 days ago we've had our back yard torn up by about a dozen turkeys, and there's a pair of Grouse roosting in an Ash tree at the edge of the wood line. We've lived in Washington State for the last 20+ years, fi...
