Re: Fiery Brown Spider

Hans, that's a nice combination. I notice you have tended to use courser dubbing for bodies or thoraxes in most of the flies you've posted in recent months. Seal or Argentinian Hare. You obviously have a preference for these, and I know have never put together a pattern without giving the materials ...

Re: Fishing Deep

Hey 5feathers, Would you consider adding a short length of sinking line to the leader assembly you showed me? I realize that wouldn't do for high-sticking, but in a situation with deeper water and a little more water to cover, I seems like that might get the mid of the leader down without creating a...

Re: Spring in NY

Nice pics, and thanks for sharing those. Some very nice looking browns. Softies and Nymphs are certainly the best bets at the moment, as long as you can get them deep enough. Looks like a great day.

Re: Out fishing today

Mark, This is a great post. Thanks for sharing it. I'm glad you're out and about. If things work out, I might find myself on some water this weekend, and after reading your description, I dont think I can keep from it. EP, Thread midges are a great idea. I should probably add those to the mix. Thank...

Re: Minty Spider

hey Hans, As a tying illustration. This might be the easiest to understand when you trying to demonstrate the technigue of flattening the material for the body, tie to the bend and cord the material to create the rib and up to the eye. I know we've seen this done in a lot of different materials and ...

Re: Attempt at Tying in Hand

Liam, that is great to see. Nice fly. And good for you for trying that. Imagine the skill you'd possess after tying 100 of these. or a hundred a day. The old timers must have had a very different experience tying. At least you have some idea.

nicely done.

Re: Fishing Deep

Sometimes you just have to get the flies down to the fish. This is a very nice post.

I'm a believer.

Re: Hot Temper

Hans, this technique/pattern/method, just rings very true for me. the rib, the dub, the hackle. its an assembly that I will very happily adopt, if in my limited way. fantastic assembly. For me though, the method would be just as well suited in a more calming color combination. Maybe a more Mild Mann...

Re: CQ White Spider

Hans,

These are great. When the dust starts to settle around my place I'll be on the hunt for a CQ and a Greenfinch.
Thanks for exposing us to such variety in materials. It's been a real treat.
